The Mechromancer Idea
PAX East was a blast, and if you missed the Gearbox panel discussion, you may not have heard about a few interesting developments in the world of Borderlands 2. Chief among them was discussion of an idea for an additional playable class in the game: the Mechromancer. The Gearbox guys also showed off some concept artwork for this idea, which can be seen above.
Gearbox plans to start building on this idea once the development of Borderlands 2 has finished, so we can't say too much more about her at this time because she doesn't exist yet. Once developed, the Mechromancer will be released as an add-on to the game an estimated 60 to 90 days after Borderlands 2 comes out.
As a special "Thank you" to the people who supported the development of Borderlands 2 early on by pre-ordering it at select retailers, members of the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club will have free access to the Mechromancer. In addition, this class will be available at the same time for those that aren't a part of the Premiere Club as a premium add-on pack. There will also be a free compatibility update released alongside the Mechromancer so that those who have her can play with those that don't and vice versa.
Interested in joining the Premiere Club? Here's a list of stores participating in the program.
