Samsung’s rugged Galaxy S4
Samsung’s rugged Galaxy S4 Active officially announced, to launch onJune 20
The rumors mills have been abuzz in the last month or so with images and videos leaking of an alleged rugged version of the Galaxy S4, called the Galaxy S4 Active. Today, the South Korean company has officially announced the rugged Galaxy S4 Active and has revealed that it will be launching the device at Samsung Premiere 2013 in London on June 20.
Speaking of specifications, the Galaxy S4 Active flaunts a 5-inch HD TFT display with a PPI count of 443 and also featuring Samsung’s Glove Touch technology, which as the name suggests, allows one to use the display even when wearing gloves.
The smartphone is powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core processor paired with 2GB of RAM and includes features like an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel secondary camera, 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card and a 2,600mAh battery.
Connectivity-wise, the device supports 3G and includes features like Wi-Fi ac, Wi-Fi Direct, IrDA, NFC, USB 2.0, and Bluetooth 4.0. While on the software front, the phone runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, wrapped under Samsung’s own Touch-Wiz Nature UX interface and comes pre-loaded with Samsung unique software previously seen on the Galaxy S4 like S Travel, S Translator, Group Play, Samsung Smart Pause, Air View and Air Gesture among others.
The phone’s USP though is its ruggedness and to help it survive in the wild, the device is water and dust resistant and the camera also has an Aqua mode which helps in clicking enhanced underwater photos.
